Grow Up, Glow Up

One way to change up your wardrobe is to recreate childhood outfits! Here’s how team members Alexis and Frances updated an old look to something that's more in their style for 2023.

Frances

The first picture (below) was taken by my mom who dressed me up in a frilly pastel rainbow dress, adorned with ivory Mary Janes, white socks and pink ribbons for my first birthday. The second picture was taken by my dad just before my first school dance in the second grade. Both outfits had frills around the shoulders and pink hair accessories as a statement piece alongside minimalistic earrings. Years later, I had similar fashion pieces in my closet, such as the pastel rainbow Selkie dress, which I paired with ivory Mary Janes heels and pink silk scrunchies. Likewise, I paired my pink silk scrunchies with a pink tulle dress that had cherry blossoms on the top of the dress, from my aunt's vow renewal.

While taking the first photo (below) with my mom and little sister at home, I wore this outfit with a floral top and pink shorts when I was six years old! Twenty years later, I just so happen to have the same items but with darker accents in my top and more subdued pink for my shorts.

The second photo was taken in 2006, where I spent the day at Disneyland in my simple outfit consisting of a light colored top with a bedazzled GAP logo and flared denim pants with cartoon prints. Now in 2023, I aimed for the same comfort level in an oversized top with an embroidered boba graphic and straight ripped jeans.
